I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist at Tri-Valley Stress & Anxiety Center. Below you will find answers to questions about my approach and background.

My Approach to Helping

As we move through life, our choices and behavior are influenced by our environment, family and friends, and our unique experiences. Sometimes we develop patterns or reactive behavior that is no longer useful to us.

This can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, frustration or other emotions that can affect our daily life. By acknowledging this, we can begin to learn new ways to respond instead of just reacting, which can bring about changes in our relationships with family, friends and colleague.

We can begin to experience our daily lives in a different way by giving up trying to control our environment and those around us, as well as learning how to control our responses to our surroundings.

In addition, learning to be mindful can increase our awareness of our ongoing range of emotions and behaviors. We can learn that they can come and go. We don’t have to become attached to them or judge them. We can hold ourselves and others in a more compassionate way.

Clinical Experience

Janet has nearly 25 years experience providing therapy in many different settings. She began her career in school based therapeutic classroom programs working with children identified with emotional disabilities. Janet utilized art therapy, sand tray therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other therapeutic interventions. She also worked with the student’s families so the parents could provide follow up interventions at home. As a clinical behavioral supervisor for The Children’s Health Council, she supervised clinical interns, as well as provided therapy for families. For many years, Janet had a private practice working with adults, couples, and children.

Before joining Tri-Valley Stress & Anxiety Center, she worked at the Alameda Juvenile Justice Center providing therapy for adolescents who where detained. She created therapeutic plans connecting youth with community organizations for supportive services when the youth returned home.

In addition to being a Licensed Marriage, Family Therapist, Janet has a Pupil Personnel Credential, and is a Board Certified Art Therapist.
